THE HISTORY OF CARRIE MURRAY NATURE CENTER

Baltimore City Recreation and Parks (BCRP) established the nature center in 1985 after receiving a generous donation from Orioles baseball hall-of-fame legend Eddie Murray. The center was dedicated and named after Eddie's mother, Carrie Murray.

The nature center is nestled on 1,216 acres in historic Gwynns Falls Leakin Park, one of the largest forested city parks in the United States.

About Carrie Murray

Ms. Murray’s gentle spirit and strength of character greatly influenced her twelve children. She instilled in them the importance of family, respect for nature, and a sense of responsibility, leadership, and accomplishment.

Baltimore City Recreation and Parks hopes that everyone who visits the campus appreciates the values Ms. Murray lived by. She inspires us to fulfill her mission of caring for nature and each other.
